Derrick Mason, 36, has been the Ravens' top wideout for the past five seasons, but re-signing the unrestricted free agent is no longer the team's top priority, especially after the acquisition of Anquan Boldin. Before free agency began on Friday, it appeared as though Mason would return to Baltimore because both sides were agreeable on a two-year deal. But when Mason decided to test free agency, he lost his leverage with the team as the Ravens traded their third- and fourth-round draft picks for Boldin and a fifth-round pick. Though the Ravens would love to have Mason back as a solid No. 2 receiver, there's no urgency on their part because he hasn't generated heavy interest in the free-agent market. In fact, the Ravens could possibly wait until after the draft to re-sign him.

With David Carr off to San Francisco, it is time for Jim Sorgi to decide whether it is better to backup Eli or Peyton Manning. Sorgi, currently with the Colts, is on a short list of candidates to replace Carr, according to a team source. The Giants are also expected to pursue veteran quarterbacks Jeff Garcia and Mark Brunell, who was the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback from 1995-2002 under then-coach Tom Coughlin. Kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd is scheduled to try out for the Giants on Tuesday, according to his agent, if he doesn't sign with Minnesota on Monday.

Tim Tebow has at least two teams interested in working him out. Tebow will throw at the school's pro day on March 17, and it will be an unscripted workout, meaning he's willing to do any passes asked of him by scouts. Tebow declined to throw at the NFL Scouting Combine last weekend, but he's now ready to show off his revamped delivery. Tebow also revealed on Sunday that he already has individual workouts with the Seahawks and Bills lined up after his pro day. While the Seahawks have committed to veteran Matt Hasselbeck next season, they need a long-term solution under center, and the Bills are also seeking a quarterback.

Troy Smith, the former Buckeyes star, may be on his way back to Ohio. "He would crawl from Baltimore right now to be able to play in Cleveland," Smith's agent Ralph Cindrich said in a phone interview. "That's clearly where his heart is. That's where his love is. He has a great relationship in Baltimore and with the fans as long as I don't muck it up too much. He has a great relationship with (Baltimore General Manager) Ozzie Newsome. It's just that this is where home is. In the offseason, he tells me, 'Get me home.'" Baltimore made Smith, a restricted free agent, the lowest offer possible.

For the New York Jets, the third time may be the charm with Laveranues Coles. Coles, 32, was released last week after one season with the Bengals, and he told a New Jersey newspaper he's interested in a return to the Jets. He was cut by the Jets last February, a mutual parting in which he agreed to forfeit $6 million in guaranteed money in exchange for having the final year of his contract voided. The Jets tried to re-sign him for less money, but the Bengals offered a richer deal. Now the Jets are looking for a third or fourth receiver to play behind starters Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards (restricted free agent). They also have Brad Smith (RFA) and David Clowney, although neither is regarded as a No. 3 receiver.
