Kansas City added another veteran linebacker to its rebuilding roster on Monday when it signed free agent Zach Thomas. In an effort to fix one of the weakest positions on a team that went 2-14 last year, the Chiefs have acquired Mike Vrabel in a deal that also brought quarterback Matt Cassel from New England, and signed Monte Beisel.

Bill Parcells likes some players because they have, "the makeup." No, we're not talking eyeliner or lipstick here, although some of your responses suggest some of you guys would like that. The makeup is about a player's disposition, work ethic, desire, ability, intelligence and other things that make him successful. Bobby Carpenter might be one such player. When he was in Dallas, Parcells picked Carpenter with the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 draft. Carpenter, 6-2 and 250 pounds, didn't blossom in the one year Parcells was there and has fallen behind on the depth chart the past couple of seasons. Last year the Cowboys wanted inside linebacker help and they signed Zach Thomas. This year, they are talking of trying to sign Ray Lewis. Carpenter is seemingly never in the conversation. And that might make Carpenter, bordering on becoming a bust in Dallas, a possible Parcells target in the coming weeks as the Dolphins search for inside linebacker help. Understand that the Dolphins showed mild interest in trading for Carpenter last season but the Cowboys rebuffed the overtures. But after yet another season of unmet expectations in which Carpenter played only 13 games without any starts and was almost exclusively a special teams player, the Cowboys might be ready to cut their losses on this player.

Free agent linebacker Zach Thomas is in town and the Cowboys expect to meet with him and his agent Drew Rosenhaus, probably today at some point. A source mentioned that Thomas is leaning to the Cowboys and would prefer to sign with them. Thomas visited and was offered contracts by New Orleans and New England.

Free agent linebacker Zach Thomas will visit with the Cowboys Tuesday, as stated by Thomas' agent Drew Rosenhaus. However, Thomas could come to Indianapolis. In that case, the meeting maybe pushed up because Rosenhaus will meet with Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones about restricted free agent running back Marion Barber during the combine.

Patriots offered Zach Thomas a contract Monday on the same day the former Dolphins linebacker made Gillette Stadium his 1st stop in what promises to be a continuing free agency tour. It is unclear what type of deal the Patriots offered however obviously it was not one either Thomas or Rosenhaus were immediately eager to sign.

The Patriots will host linebacker Zach Thomas today in Foxboro, as stated by a league source. Thomas, who was cut by the Dolphins last week, will visit several teams, with the Pats the 1st stop on his tour. With his experience, the 7 time Pro Bowler does fit the profile of players the Pats tend to bring in at linebacker. Junior Seau and Roman Phifer both joined the team's fold late in their careers.

Leaving the Dolphins' training complex at the end of this past season, Zach Thomas stopped to grab a souvenir. He removed the sign that marked his spot in the players' parking lot, then waved it at photographers. And as it turns out, Thomas really has left the Dolphins, for good.
