Monte Kiffin is giving up the NFL to join his son on the sidelines in the Southeastern Conference. Tampa Bay's longtime defensive coordinator ended weeks of speculation, confirming he will leave the Buccaneers at the end of this season for a position on the staff of Lane Kiffin, the new coach at Tennessee.

By running over, around and through one of the league's top defenses, the Carolina Panthers staked their claim as one of the NFL's top teams. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart proved a dominating tandem, and the Panthers seized control of the competitive NFC South with a 38-23 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night.

The New England Patriots will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season at Wembley Stadium, the third straight year the NFL will stage a regular-season game in the British capital. The game will be played Oct. 25. The Bucs will be listed as the home team, giving up a game in Tampa.

Although the Tampa Bay Buccaneers expect to have Monte Kiffin drawing up defensive game plans for the rest of the season, his future with the NFC South co-leaders remains unclear. Neither Kiffin nor the Bucs have done anything to end speculation that the 68-year-old defensive coordinator has decided to leave the NFL to work for his son, Lane, the new coach at the University of Tennessee.

Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards called his $25,000 fine for hits against Tampa Bay 2 weeks ago "ridiculous" and "outrageous". The NFL fined Edwards on Friday for a late hit on Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia and a leg whip on an offensive lineman.

With leading rusher Earnest Graham out for the season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will lean more on Warrick Dunn. Graham limped off the field with a right ankle sprain after his only carry during last week's win over Minnesota and was placed on the injured reserve on Wednesday.

No more bone-jarring tackles for John Lynch. The hard-hitting, 9 time Pro Bowl safety retired on Monday, saying it was time to start a new phase of life after 11 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and 4 more with the Broncos. He felt so strongly about the relationships he built with both clubs that he decided against stepping down in the colors of either team.

Running back Michael Bennett signed with the San Diego Chargers on Wednesday, hours after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bennett, an 8 year pro, carried only 7 times for 12 yards with the Buccaneers, an average of 1.7 yards per carry. "He's a capable running back and he was released", coach Norv Turner said.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed some weird and lucky things to happen Sunday for them to make history. Matt Bryant missed a 38-yard field goal attempt on a 3rd down play in overtime, but tackle Jeremy Trueblood was called for a false start. So the Bucs lined up for another 3rd-down play and Jeff Garcia connected with Jameel Cook for 9 yards, giving Bryant a 2nd chance from 33.
