Fans purchased more than 20,000 tickets to Minnesota's playoff game over six days, assuring there will be no local TV blackout when the Vikings host Philadelphia at the Metrodome on Sunday. The Vikings announced the sales results on Saturday afternoon for their wild-card playoff game with the Eagles after moving the remaining 3,100 seats that were still unsold the day before.

Eagles Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel was held out of practice with a hip injury and is listed as questionable for the divisional playoff game against Minnesota. Samuel strained his hip in Thursday's practice. Coach Andy Reid said on Friday he thinks Samuel is going to be OK. Samuel made the Pro Bowl in his first season with the Eagles.

Plenty of good seats are still available for Minnesota's playoff game against Philadelphia. The Vikings reported 8,000 tickets remaining at noon on New Year's Day for Sunday's game against the Eagles. The NFL has granted an extension until 3:30 p.m. local time on Friday to reach a virtual sellout, but the possibility of a local TV blackout looms.

Magnanimous guy that he is, Terrell Owens sent Tony Romo a text message yesterday telling him that no matter what happened against the Eagles, no matter how awful the quarterback played, he would shed tears for him again, the way he did last season after Romo stumbled against the New York Giants in the playoffs. And Romo was indeed awful, unable to lead the talented Cowboys into the playoffs, or even into the end zone, as the Eagles humiliated them, 44-6, before a delighted crowd at Lincoln Financial Field. "I just told him, no matter what, I'm still the same guy who shed tears for him at last year's press conference, and I'd do it again, because that's the type of person I am, regardless of what anybody thinks or says about me," Owens said.

Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams is impatient. He's planning to do everything in his power to be ready for this Sunday's playoff game against Philadelphia. Coach Brad Childress said on Monday that Williams will "try to make that push to this weekend" but was noncommittal about whether the three-time Pro Bowl pick would be able to suit up for the Eagles game.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones acts like a man who wants Wade Phillips to succeed on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. In Jones' mind, Phillips can help the Cowboys win "for the next several years." Jones indicated on Friday that he wants to keep the current coaching staff intact regardless of what happens in Philadelphia or the playoffs, should the Cowboys get that far. They can clinch a wild-card spot with a victory over the Eagles. However, Jones stopped just short of saying specifically that Phillips will return in 2009.

To Greg Blache, no player in the NFL has been more dynamic this month than Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, and the Redskins' defensive coordinator went to extremes as he schemed to contain him. There's a danger in that, but his approach worked perfectly yesterday, with the proof coming in just how seldom Westbrook actually touched the ball in Washington's 10-3 win at FedEx Field. "We were going to deny him the football," Blache said.

Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis missed practice on Friday with a muscle spasm in his back and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Coach Jim Zorn said he expects Portis to play. "He's working out the kinks," Zorn said.

Eagles receiver Reggie Brown is not happy that he was left out of the lineup and out of uniform for two straight weeks. Asked why he thinks receivers Hank Baskett and Jason Avant moved ahead of him, Brown said yesterday: "I don't know. That's a question you need to ask Reid, then you can come back down here and tell me, because I don't know. I don't get answers. I'm in the dark right now. I've tried to. I don't get answers." Reid, of course, would be coach Andy Reid.
