With leading rusher Earnest Graham out for the season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will lean more on Warrick Dunn. Graham limped off the field with a right ankle sprain after his only carry during last week's win over Minnesota and was placed on the injured reserve on Wednesday.
Vikings defensive end Jared Allen was fined $25,000 for a recent spate of late hits, but he will not be suspended. He's not planning to reduce his aggressiveness, either. After his summons to NFL headquarters in New York on Tuesday, Allen returned to Winter Park to continue resting and rehabilitating his sprained right shoulder.
Former 1st round draft pick Troy Williamson never really got along with coach Brad Childress in Minnesota. His feelings have not changed since leaving there, either. Williamson, now in Jacksonville, said on Wednesday he lost respect for his former coach last year and would like to "duke it out" with him when the Jaguars host the Vikings on Sunday.
Tony Romo is 1-0 since putting on a splint to protect his broken pinkie, and he must wear it for his next start, and the one after that. However, for several throws on Wednesday, Romo ditched the splint to see how close he might be to playing without it. "It is getting better", Romo said. "Every day that goes by it gets a little bit better.
The lawyer for 3 Saints players facing suspension said on Wednesday the NFL's independent drug adminstrator acknowledged he did not inform NFL players that the supplement StarCaps contained a banned diuretic.
Six defensive starters missed Wednesday's practice for the Colts. Among those not participating were safety Bob Sanders, last season's defensive player of the year, defensive end Robert Mathis and middle linebacker Gary Brackett, the defensive captain. Coach Tony Dungy was uncertain about Sanders' status for Sunday's game at San Diego.
Oft-injured wide receiver Craig Davis, a disappointment in his 2 seasons with the San Diego Chargers, will miss the rest of the season with a groin injury. Davis was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday. Tackle Corey Clark was signed from the practice team to take Davis' spot on the active roster.
Brett Favre is having too much fun leading the 1st place Jets to even think about next season. "I do not see how anyone, aside from you guys, can focus on next year when what we are attempting to do right now is win and do something this year", Favre informed reporters on Wednesday.
