The Carolina Panthers could be without both starting defensive tackles for Sunday's game at New Orleans, perhaps enticing the pass-happy Saints to run the ball. Damione Lewis missed practice for a third straight day on Friday with a shoulder injury and was listed as doubtful.

Deuce McAllister maybe playing his final game at the Superdome on Monday night. Technically, McAllister has 4 years remaining on his contract with the Saints, but the reality is his roster spot is far from guaranteed next season. His salary cap number jumps from $4.5 million to $7.3 million. That is feature back money not position player money, and McAllister, at this stage of his injury-riddled career, is a position player, at least in the eyes of his current employer.

As Drew Brees frantically and futilely tried to pass the Saints back into contention against the Falcons on Sunday, Jeremy Shockey, the club's high profile offseason acquisition, found himself in a strange and decidedly low profile place, on the sideline. In the desperate 4th-quarter finish, Brees completed a remarkable 19 passes for 294 yards and 2 touchdowns. None of them was to Shockey. The Saints ran 36 plays in the 4th quarter, the equivalent of a normal half, and Shockey was on the field for 3 of them. The official explanation was that Shockey had left the game with an injury, and indeed Shockey's right ankle was swollen with fluid in the postgame locker room. However, that did not explain Shockey's absence on the drive before the injury, which occurred on the 2nd drive of the 4th quarter. On the Saints' 1st possession of the 4th quarter, Billy Miller played almost every down at tight end.

Saints offensive guard Jamar Nesbit filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the maker of a weight-loss supplement, alleging that it was improperly spiked with a diuretic that is banned by the NFL. The lawsuit against the makers of StarCaps, an over the counter product, was filed in the federal district court in New Jersey, said Nesbit's attorney Brian Molloy.

Team officials revealed the cuts on Tuesday night, hours after head coach Sean Payton had met with reporters. Payton had not indicated that any roster moves were planned.
