Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens had Chad Pennington spinning, ducking, on his heels and on his back. When he did manage to get a pass away, they were often there to snatch it. The Ravens came up with four interceptions, including one returned 64 yards for a touchdown by Ed Reed, and won 27-9 Sunday to spoil the Miami Dolphins' first playoff game in seven seasons.

Bill Parcells is staying with the Miami Dolphins, owner Wayne Huizenga said. After the team's playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Huizenga said Parcells has decided to remain for another season. Parcells' contract allows him to leave and still receive the $9-12 million remaining on his four-year contract if the franchise is sold.

All the hoopla surrounding the farewell to Texas Stadium was supposed to fire up the Dallas Cowboys. Well, it got to the Baltimore Ravens, too. Feeling like they were a hand-picked foe set up for failure, the Ravens refused to play the stooge.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are AFC North champions, and earning the crown at the expense of the Baltimore Ravens added an extra measure of joy to the accomplishment. Santonio Holmes caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger with 43 seconds left, and the Steelers clinched their second straight division title and earned a first-round bye by beating Baltimore 13-9 on Sunday.

A day after Washington Redskins Coach Jim Zorn said Clinton Portis's lack of practice contributed to his benching during Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the running back fired back yesterday, pointedly criticizing the coach's communication and decision-making. In his weekly radio appearance on WTEM-980's "The John Thompson Show," Portis dismissed as "B.S." Zorn's suggestion that missing practice had hurt the execution of his assignments. He said he was at every meeting and every practice last week, noted teammates had played on Sunday after missing practice the week before and guaranteed he knows the playbook better than any player besides the quarterbacks.

Steelers lineman Willie Colon predicts a bloodbath. Ben Roethlisberger anticipates both teams limping out of the stadium. Any player not covered in bruises on Sunday evening, Hines Ward says, won't have played hard enough. There are talked-about rivalries in the NFL and real ones, and the dislike between the Ravens and Steelers isn't imaginary.

Five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday as the Washington Redskins made a slew of moves following an injury-filled loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Samuels will require surgery after tearing his right triceps in the fourth quarter of the 24-10 loss.

Five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels is out for the season with a torn right triceps, the latest blow for a Washington Redskins team that has sunk to last place in the NFC East. Samuels was injured in Sunday night's 24-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Right tackle Jon Jansen was also hurt in the game and an MRI on Monday revealed a sprained MCL in his left knee.

If the Washington Redskins are fortunate, it might be another four years before they have to face the Baltimore Ravens again. If the Redskins are lucky, maybe Ed Reed will be retired by then. Reed set up a touchdown with an interception and scored on a 22-yard fumble return, part of a stifling effort by the Baltimore defense in a 24-10 victory on Sunday night.

Brandon Jacobs said on Tuesday that he got "good news" from the MRI on his left knee, but he still might not play on Sunday in Arizona. The Giants' top running back, who injured his knee in the 2nd quarter of this past Sunday's 30-10 win over the Ravens, confirm the MRI showed "no major damage".
