Mike Smith won't let his Atlanta Falcons forget all the great things they achieved this season. Even after their first-round playoff loss to Arizona, Smith urged the Falcons to concentrate on the positive, which, of course, included his earning The Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year award. "This is all part of the process," Smith said of the 30-24 defeat against the Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals have consecutive home playoff victories, 61 years apart. Kurt Warner opened with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald and connected with Anquan Boldin on a 71-yard scoring play as the Cardinals beat Atlanta 30-24 Saturday before a raucous, towel-waving crowd.

The NFL has granted a second, final 24-hour extension of its television blackout deadline for the Arizona Cardinals' wild card playoff game against Atlanta on Saturday. The team has until 2:30 p.m. on Friday to sell its remaining tickets. A sellout crowd is necessary for the NFL to lift its blackout of the home television market.

The Dallas Cowboys have fired special teams coach Bruce Read, making him the first assistant ousted in the wake of a disappointing 9-7 season. Read's special teams unit made costly gaffes, including a blocked punt in overtime at Arizona that ended in a game-winning Cardinals touchdown. Breakdowns in kick coverage also beset Dallas, and Adam "Pacman" Jones fizzled as a return man.

The final seconds ticked away and the Arizona Cardinals weren't sure how to celebrate. After all, it's been 33 years since the franchise last won a division title. "My coach was like, 'Act like you've been there before, act like you've been there before,'" defensive tackle Darnell Dockett said. "I said 'Coach, I ain't been there before.'"

The day after welcoming newborn twins into his family, Eagles' quarterback Donovan McNabb is looking for a different type of love from the Eagles. McNabb yesterday reiterated his desire to speak with the front office regarding his future, a subject he first broached on the NFL Network following his four touchdown performance in last week's 48-20 rout the Arizona Cardinals at Lincoln Financial Field. The reason for such talks? "We'll discuss that when the times comes," McNabb said. "At this particular point it's really important for us to focus on who are playing and that is the Giants (Sunday). The conversation will happen. It will be at the end of the season."

If Donovan McNabb is playing out his final games with the Eagles, his 1st audition for his next position comes before a national audience. Benched at halftime in a loss at Baltimore, McNabb will be back on center stage on Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals. The Eagles (5-5-1) desperately need to win to maintain their slim playoff hopes.

Brandon Jacobs was listed as probable. However, by Saturday night, after a long flight here, his swollen knee made him think he was probably not going to play. He was expected to play in Sunday's win over the Cardinals and there were even reports early in the day he would play. Those reports proved to be premature because Jacobs was declared inactive 90 minutes before kickoff. It appeared to be a mutual decision made by Jacobs, coach Tom Coughlin and the training staff. On Monday, the Giants must explain that decision to the NFL. According to a Cardinals spokesman, the team sent an informal complaint to the league about the Giants listing Jacobs as probable. League policy requires teams to furnish an explanation to the league office when a player who is listed as probable does not play. The Giants could have updated Jacobs' status on Saturday night by downgrading him to questionable, but they are not required to do so.

Donovan McNabb's benching lasted less than 24 hours. One day after he got yanked at halftime of a close game, the 5 time Pro Bowl QB got his position back, for now. McNabb will start when the Eagles host the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night.

Eli Manning says he never flashed back to his previous game in Glendale. Everyone who watched him on Sunday must have. Manning threw for 3 touchdowns in his return to the scene of his Super Bowl MVP display and the Giants beat Arizona 37-29 to snap the Cardinals' 7 game home winning streak.
